Alternative Design Manufacturing offers a broad selection of plastic rodent caging systems for the housing of mice, rats, hamsters and guinea pigs. Our selection of cage tops and bottoms are available in two quality plastic resins. One resin is polycarbonate (PC); the other is polysulfone in the Udel® brand (UD).

The resin you select should be based on the degree of autoclaving, longevity and budget. This includes, but is not limited to, cage change frequency, autoclave settings, cage washing, cost factors, and general handling/storage.

Polycarbonate (PC) is the least expensive. It is not recommended for autoclaving and is very durable. PC is clear and offers excellent visibility.

Udel® (UD) is moderately priced and is suitable for most applications. It will not break down from exposure to very hot water and is auto clavable. The natural resin is light amber colored with excellent visibility that does not deteriorate. Alternative Design also offers Udel in low color(clear). Udel is our most demanded product and provides excellent value and dependable use for years. Udel is offered with a 2-year, pro-rated guarantee.

All of Alternative Design’s cages are manufactured with a unique X pattern on the bottom. This distinctive X design creates a more efficient flow of the resin through the mould. This assures material evenness to the extremities and results

Mouse Ventilated Top
This top has two flap doors that are spring loaded. This vent top is specifically designed to work on our Gentle-Air ventilated rack system. It is a solid top with no filter or seal. The vent doors open when this cage is docked on the Gentle-Air. This top is designed to be used with our Dura and Max cages.

Accessories

Mouse Wire Bar Lids
These wire bar lids are manufactured using 304 Quarter Hard Stainless Steel and are electro polished. The wire bars have a food hopper and accommodate our low profile water bottle. These wire bars stack very well and the handle/divider folds down for easy stacking.

Cage Card Holders
The ADM cage card holders are made to either clip on or hang on the cage and hold a 3" x 5" standard index card. They are made of heavy duty 304 Stainless Steel sheet metal. Depending on the model they either show the card in the horizontal or vertical position.
